During a nationwide moral panic caused by a recent spike in teenage suicides two federal investigators are sent to a small Russian town to review a cold case involving a suspicious death of a schoolgirl. Initially seeing their task as a mere PR stunt both gradually start to loose their focus as they venture deeper into the paranoid world of conspiracy theories surrounding the case.

Alisa Khazanova is a theater and film actress, film director, screenwriter and producer. Born into the family of a famous soviet artist Gennady Khazanov and Zlata Elbaum. She graduated from the Moscow Choreographic School and the Moscow Academy of Choreography with a degree in ballet dancer and choreographer. She also graduated from the Martha Graham School of Modern Dance in New York. She completed an internship at The Juilliard School New York.

Ballet

For eight years, Alisa worked as a ballet dancer at The Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, which she left after a knee injury. She performed solo parts in the ballets Don Quixote, Swan Lake, Spartacus, The Golden Age, Capriccio, The Lesson and others. She was awarded the Grand Prix at the competition of young choreographers of the Academy of Russian Ballet. A. Ya. Vaganova in St. Petersburg.

Film and theatre

Alisa made her film debut in the short film Together, and then in the feature films by Nikolai Khomeriki 977 and A Tale of Darkness (both films participated in the “Un Certain Regard” program at the Cannes Film Festival).

 

She starred in films by award winning arthouse directors including Nikolai Khomeriki, Nikolai Dostal, Renata Litvinova, Valeria Gai Germanika, Pavel Ruminov, Grigory Konstantinopolsky, Anna Melikyan.

Solo Shows

In 2014, the Chateau de Fantomas club staged a one-man show Shine based on the songs of the leader of the legendary music band Civil Defense, Yegor Letov,

 

Together with Alexey Rozin Alisa played in the play “The Girl and Death” directed by Maxim Didenko. The premiere took place in November 2018 in London.

30 Dececember 2022 Gorky theatre in Berlin staged a play The last word directed by Maxim Didenko. The performance was based on last words of women accused of political crimes in Russian courts.

Film director

In 2016, Alisa Khazanova shot her first feature film, Middleground, in the USA, in which she acted as a director, screenwriter and actress.

 

In 2023, Alisa Khazanova, as a director, shot the film “The White List” about teenage “death groups” on social networks. Khazanova wrote the script for the film together with Roman Volobuev.

 

Current moment Alisa lives and works in London and preparing new projects with NETFLIX.

The performance is based on last words of women accused of political crimes in Russian courts. Their outspoken message in a court room becomes the only matter of free speech one can imagine in contemporary Russia.

 

The performance gathered «last words» of defendants such as Maria Alyokhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Alla Gutnikova, Sasha Skochilenko, Zarifa Sautieva and others to shine light on their courage and to paint a picture of Russia’s current regime.
